Chief Technology Officer
Jon was born in Plymouth and grew up in Southampton, England. At age 20, he came to the United States on vacation and stayed. In 2000, Jon became a US citizen. Jon’s early career included positions in construction, movie production, computers and electronics. He became interested in technology while employed with Landmark Entertainment. In this position Jon quickly developed a wide range of experience in all aspects of server, network and desktop administration and support.
Jon advanced to Director of Computer Operations during an eight year tenure with International Creative Management, one of the premier talent agencies in the world. Jon gained notoriety as a skilled hands on technology manager with exceptional communications and problem solving skills. As Information Systems and Technology Manager for Orrick, Herrington and Sutcliffe LLP, Jon developed expertise in supervising a geographically dispersed team while successfully leading large, complex, cross-functional programs. Jon was with Orrick for 12 years before joining Esri.
Jon has spent the last 6 years at Esri as a Solutions Engineer for the Esri Public Safety Team, Jon was the technical lead for the disaster response and special events programs. Jon has deployed on many special events providing technical implementations of geospatial technology including NASCAR, Boston Marathon, Ironman World Championships, the Pope’s visit, several Super Bowls, and many other events. Jon also supported disaster response and deployments for the Napa earthquake, Louisianan floods and many hurricanes and wildfires.
Prior to joining Esri, Jon was the lead developer for MapSAR, a voluntary collaborative effort to build an ArcGIS based tool to support Search and Rescue efforts for lost and missing persons. MapSAR has gained international adoption and acclaim since its release, and in 2012 earned special achievement awards from both Esri and the National Alliance for Public Safety GIS (NAPSG).
Jon has been a member of Sierra Madre Search & Rescue for 12 years and has held several board positions. Jon has roles as incident commander, operations section chief, plans sections chief as well as being a qualified technical field responder. Jon is one of the lead technical trainers for the team in subjects varying from technical rope rescue to lost person tracking. Jon is also a member of the Los Angeles underground rescue team and MSHA certified. Jon enjoys rock climbing, canyoneering, and mountaineering which includes summits of Rainier, Denali, Orizaba, Whitney, and most recently Aba Dabam in Nepal. Previous endeavors were racing in triathlons, marathons and just about any other competitive event. He has completed four Ironman events (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run) including the World Championships in Kona Hawaii in 2003. He is also a certified coach, registered with both the USCF and USAT (US cycling federation, USA Triathlon).
