Let me start by saying that I hate…yes, hate…writing a bio about myself. My parents taught me two things – never use the word “hate” and don’t talk about yourself unless asked. By reading this I’ll assume you asked.
I’ll start with what I like to do. I like to bring people together to solve problems. I like to listen (hence the name Bent Ear) for my client’s real challenges which are not often what they bring to me to start. I’ve spent my career as a trusted advisor helping programs and organizations – Federal, state, local, not-for-profit, and private sector clients -- design a path forward in their unique and often uncertain environments. I’ve helped a Federal organization reengineer how it tests rocket motors and bombs; I’ve helped a Federal agency design and develop a knowledge management system; and, I’ve run (and I’m still running) a not-for-profit for emergency managers. I really enjoy pulling stakeholders into a room to discuss the problems they’re trying to solve and how to go about solving them. I’m not afraid to roll up my sleeves and get work done.
In my free time I like to spend time with my wife, Molly, and our four kids. Though I’m still pursing that professional tennis career, I think I’m finally on the verge of accepting the fact that I’ll need to focus on Bent Ear Solutions if I plan on feeding my family.

Sometimes you find a career, and sometimes a career finds you. In my case, my career has made me an expert at information sharing. I have worked on problems ranging from ballistic missile defense to disaster response, and no matter what the challenge, I always seemed to end up focusing on the ability to share information quickly. I have started programs from scratch, and I have advised those well down the road but needing adjustment. I have spent time working for the Governor of Virginia, with the Department of Homeland Security, and leading the Public Safety Industry within Esri. These experiences have allowed me to develop a unique background in developing or supporting programs both from the public and private sector perspective. I have seen first hand…too many times…that the issue with most technology deployments is in the planning (governance, standard operating procedures, training/exercises) and not the technology itself. Hence the reason to start Bent Ear Solutions.
As a co-founder of Bent Ear Solutions my goal is to bring the “Bent Ear”…we listen before we talk…to all of our clients in order to help them solve the real challenges they’re facing today.
When I am not playing with the latest technology, I'm hanging out with my wife Sara, chasing our three daughters (a whole other kind of information sharing challenge), or cheering on my Nittany Lions and Pittsburgh Steelers.
